Drop anchor at Dockside
English’ Dockside has been in the Springs since 2005, tucked into another unassuming strip mall at 2220 Academy Place (just south of Maizeland Road.) The place has built its reputation on crab cakes, etoufee sauce, clam chowder, fried or grilled snapper and the like. Good fish is hard to find this far from the ocean, but fortunately Thomas English puts a high value on freshness and flavor.

Perhaps not surprisingly he knows how to make the most of a burger too: start with Callicrate ground beef and serve it on a po’ boy style hoagie. Most locals don’t come here to chow on cow, of course, but it is another option while enjoying the quirky ambience of a local gem imbued with Thomas’ wonderfully welcoming sense of humor.
